   Dear Cataline,
   I'd give Google SketchUp a try. The application is a free download from Google, and I find it very easy to use. It lets you create the parts of a piece (components, in Google speak), then join them or move them apart for an exploded view. If you want to try it, also check out our Design. Click. Build blog, which gives great lessons and shortcuts for using SketchUp.
