Delta Pro Jointer $399 at Rockler
I just got the January sale flyer from my local Rockler store and they have a 6″ Delta Professional Jointer for $399. Sounded like a great buy, this normally sells for $650. Curious, I called them up and asked which model the jointer is. They said it is a special purchase and has the base from the X5 jointer and the top from another (Im assuming the 37-195 model). Does this sound like a good deal? I’m not sure if there really is any difference between the two jointer models, other than warranty.

Yes, My Dad is interested in this offer also, so I checked for him this morning. Really the only difference is the X5 has a 5 year warranty, this model does not. So we bought one and it appears very well made.
I have a Delta DJ-15 jointer now on it's 15th year of service, it has performed perfectly.

That's good to hear. Did you get the $399 deal already? My flyer says the sale doesn't start until Dec 29.
Not yet, but I went to look at it and reserved one for Saturday pickup. GK
What is the difference between the Professional Jointer and the Non Professional Jointer?

From what I can tell, the professional models have an enclosed base, rack & pinion fence adjustment and 1hp motor. The "deluxe jointer" has an open base, a different fence adjustment and 3/4hp motor. I'm not sure if there are other differences as well. I've never seen them side by side.
I saw the ad too. It's too bad that this jointer doesn't come with the old style Delta-Milwaukie fence that was used in the good old days.
I guess the engineers think that if they make it look like an industrial tool more people will buy it even if it doesn't work as well. Or the designers don't know the difference. Too bad.
That old fence with the adjustment controls on the end was the most accurate fence I have ever used, at any angle. And it could be trusted to be correct. No gauges necessary.
This is still a great price on a really good little jointer. I used one for many years.
