I’m seriously thinking of buying the 15″ sears Craftsman molder/planner but thought I’d ask a little feedback about it here. If any of you have it and find it gives great results i’d like to hear what you have to say. Another thing is that I want the machine to make those old-fshioned looking casings out of MDF. I was told the knives are very expensive. What about the knives and their ease of installation? Are custom carbide knives easy to get done as I live in eastern Canada and don’t know where in the U.S. to get such knives? A source for custom knives would be agreat help to me.
I first was gonna’ get the Jet molder and got a quote for a set of knives to do a 3″ profile. I was shocked to find a set of 3 knives @3″ each would cost me over $700 canadian?
Thanks kindly

One of the companies I deal with for knives and stuff for our moulder is http://www.woodtechtooling.com
The knives are not going to be any cheaper for a craftsman than a jet moulder. Plenty of knife grinding companies listed in WoodShop News or by a google search or try tooling in http://www.woodweb.com or few people ever go into the links on this site for leads.
The machine is the cheap part compared to the tooling.
