I have a relative moving to Africa where he said the power supply will be 50 mhz. He would like to take along a cordless tool set but is concerned that he will not be able to recharge it given the power is different than the United States. Any thoughts? Any recommendations on what to buy and take along?

From Africa
I recently moved from Cape Town, South Africa to Altanta, GA and yes the power in South Africa is 220V 50hz so that presents a real problem moving power tools. It really all depends on the tools the cordless tools are easier because the motor is not either 50Hz or 60Hz. I is really tool dependent and look at the supply the charger can handle. If the charger says 220V/110V ~ 50/60Hz you are fine otherwise it will explode on you.
A lot of new electronics are like that when you look at laptops and cellphone chargers, but my Bosch cordless sander was 220V only so I could not bring it to the USA. So check the tools are then you will be fine.
