What are people using for filtering air for paint sprayers? Are special filters required for oil, or are the basic water and particle filters enough?
I’ve heard of coalescing filters for oil, and seen advertisements for combination coalescing filters and water/particle filters. These seem terribly expensive. – $500 to $800 per unit. Are they necessary?
I’m considering an HVLP conversion sprayer, and I’d like to be sure I’m set up right. I have an oil-lubed compressor (Husky, the Home Depot house brand, made by Cambell-Hausfeld, 3 hp, 60-gallon). I know it spits oil – I can feel it when I drain the compressor tank. Any recommendations for specific filters would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Just buy a Norgren moisture separator (no more than $50)including nipples,90's etc I have used them for years and no problems
Thanks, Jako17!
From where are these available? If I go to a local air tool supply house and ask for one by that description, will they know what I'm talking about? I didn't find one (or didn't recognize one!) with a quick internet search.

Here's a link that may help.

I have a filter/separator followed by a Motor Guard M60 moisture filter. There's a T between the filters so that I'm only using the MG filter when I'm finishing.
I have a Motor Guard setup also. I use mine for all my shop air. My drills, screwdrivers and sanders like clean dy air too.------------------------------------

Yes, an air tool supply house should sort it out easily.Others have given you good leads. You might ensure that whatever you buy will handle the cfm at whatever pressure you are running at the point of filration. There is no point in adding any more restiction than necessary.
