Hey Gnann, when I first started building some furniture for my son, I did alot of research into this subject, and the conclusion that I came to is that polyurethane in general is pretty safe, but to be sure I used the water based poly. I used minwax polycrylic. I worked just fine for me, and a nice extra benefit, for this and other projects that you might do, it doesn't have the slight yellowish tint that oil based poly does.
