Has anyone ever researched whether it’s possible to have too much square footage of cedar lining for a given volume? The blanket chest for a customer is about 42″ x 21″ x 18″. Local lumber yard carries a nicely sanded tongue-and-groove cedar plank 42″ x 3.75″ x 1/4″, but I’m worried the cedar aroma will be too strong in stored blankets if entire interior lined with cedar. The planking can be found at www.cedarsafeclosets.com. Any experience/guidance? Thanks.

I wonder.. My wife used some perfume. Just a dash of Nina Ricci's L'Air du Temps.. I for one miss it ALOT!
I would NOT worry about your work!

I've built chests of a similar size and used the exact cedar you've described. I lined the bottom only. See https://www.finewoodworking.com/item/11440/two-of-a-kind It seems that in a few months the oils in the cedar dries out and the aroma weakens anyhow. A light sanding brings back the aroma.

at first it will be a very strong aroma but after a few months you will hardly smell the cedar. I used the same cedar you mentioned on 4 different chests and all have lost their strong smell. One customer adds some cedar oil occasionally to get the aroma back.

I've made two full sized blanket-chests entirely of aromatic cedar. No ill effects resulted. I also suggest carving the recipient's name on the front.

Thanks for the replies, I did not expect the odor/aroma to drop off. I will line at least all four sides, maybe a drop-in bottom as well. You've saved my repeating your experience.
