I have an old cedar chest that has seen too many children with toys. I plan to refinish it. Can anyone suggest a stain or finish? Any other suggestions will also be welcome.
Thanks.

Just sand the inside to bring out the cedar aroma. no finish at all inside
fix or tighten up hardware hinges lock etc Sand the whole outside andremove any dust apply amber shellac. After a few days lightly sand and give it another coat of the amber. Zinzzer Bulls Eye Shellac is my favorite. Steinmetz
Thanks for the reply on the Cedar Chest!
Several years ago we stripped an old (1920 vintage) cedar chest, intending to refinish it, but left it raw. We think it looks great that way.

Thanks for the feedback on the cedar chest finsih.
Cedar also looks good with a few coats of Minwax Wipe-On Poly. My favorite finish on all the custom furniture I build. You get to alter the level of gloss by adding more coats. It is fast and easy, brush or roll on a thin coat, wait 5 minutes and take the excess of with a piece of folded under shirt. The soft luster of an oil finish is hard to beat.
