NYC area that you could recommend. I am looking to redo my kitchen.

Alan,
Do you really want a cabinet maker? There are many "Kitchen" cabinet places in Brooklyn. Try the yellow pages. Expo Home in Astoria off the BQE has a vast display of kitchen mock ups worth looking at. At least to get a sense of what you might want.
The yellow pages also has a pretty good listing of woodworkers.
I don't know if there would be a cost difference between "stock" cabinets, which are pretty expensive and custom cabinets done by a custom woodworking shop. But you should check

I was under the impression that a cabinet maker could possibly be at a pricepoint in the middle of Depot vs. Expo prices yet offer a equivalent quality, fit and finish on some of the better made cabinets. I'm not talking solid wood wenge or walnut cabinets......
So far, I've visited some places and some others are way too Modern for my tastes.
Besides, I'd rather put my money towards a local craftsman than a big box.
Are you willing to work with talent from Joisey? I can steer you to a few really good craftsmen if you are.
I'd love to get some recommendations for Joisey guys.
Feel free to drop me a email.
