Hello to all again, I am now in need of software to calculate cabinet door parts, rail & stile & panel sizes & compile it all into a cutlist, I have seen “Woodshop Calculator”, but I haven’t heard anything about it. Any other suggestions? It sure “wood” be nice to have this combined with a regular cutlist program as well if any one has heard of such a thing. Thanx again…

Jim,
I use the attached Excel spreadsheet. It's for simple cope and stick doors with equal width rails and stiles, but I'm sure you could change the math to reflect different width rails.
You fill in the "Worksheet," and the other spreadsheets calculate rail and stile lengths, and panel width's and heights. I like my plywood panels to be about 1/16" smaller than the rabbeted opening they fit, but I might make solid wood panels a bit narrower to allow for wood movement.
So, on the first spreadsheet, give the job a name, name the room, style and material, and then insert widths of rails and stiles, and the tenon length. Tenon length equals the depth of the panel rabbet. In the first column, say which cabinet it is and the door location, enter the quantity of the doors of this same dimension, you can leave the next column blank or put an "S" there (don't write "DF"), then enter the width and height of the of the doors. The spreadsheets do the rest.

Great spreadsheet! I write excel spreadsheets for a lot of things, estimating, job cost, board foot calculations, etc. Did you write it? If so, great job! Thanks for sharing!
Mike
Hi Mike,
Yes, I did write it. That spreadsheet used to be part of a broader Excel cutlist workbook that I used before running Cabnetware (cabinet design, estimating, and cutlist software). Until three years ago, I used story poles - vertical, horizontal, and depth - to do full size layouts. Then I transfered dimensions to a spreadsheet which produced accurate cutlists for all carcase, face frame, door and drawer parts. Problem is, when I changed plywoods, say from .725" to .737" thick, I had to manually enter the info in each cell. Now that I think about it though, I wonder why I didn't have a "lookup" cell with the appropriate plywood thickness. Hmmmm, hindsight is always better.
If you're interested in the rest of the workbook, email me at [email protected] and I'll send it along.Gary

This is great, Gary! I've used excel for similar purposes in the past but not to handle rails, stiles, and panels. I did adjust the panle width to give 1/4" space since they're solid maple. Also, I added a formula to calculate B.F. for rail and stile material since it's time for a return trip to the lumber yard. You saved me a bunch of time!
Great! I'm glad I could help.
I find a simple program like this not only saves me time, it also eliminates math errors.Gary
