Read somewhere that your suppose to remove paint from the mating surfaces on the riser and BS body. My riser looks to have a fairly thick coat of paint/powder coat on the mating surface. Not sure about the saw neck, as I haven’t disassembled yet. Should this be removed down to bare metal, or does it matter. Also, what would be a good method to remove it if it is necessary? Thanks in advance.

Ing... I prefer a metal to metal contact. Paint, even a thin layer tends to skew (muck up) the allignment. I find a single-edge razor blade is great for removing paint in unwanted locations. You can easily flex the blade and use it as a cabinet scraper, or... use it like a plane to remove the paint. DO NOT use a file as it tends to remove metal along with the paint. SawdustSteve
Ing,
Scraping works well, a razor blade, as mentioned is good, but I use a small low quality woodworking chisel. Wear eye protection, the paint can chip off explosively.
Once the paint is gone, you can use a file to clean up the surface and remove any nicks and burrs, just keep the face of the file flat against the surface you are cleaning up and take light strokes. Don't worry about paint down in the bottom of any rough spots, it won't affect the joint.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll try the razor blade method, and agree that a metal to metal contact would be best. Still can't remember where I read the original suggestion at. Thanks again.
