What is it?

Great question! I Googled on Bosch PR23EVS and got nothing. Tried Bosch PR23 and got stuff such as
"The Last Judgement, Hieronymous Bosch, 1490."
"...protocol of the garlic experiments...."
"...brake fluid reservoir hoses may not be resistant to brake fluid."

It's this.

It looks like the best little router since the PC310. Bosch is keeping it close to their breast! Bet they want to empty out all the stock of their present trim routers before they introduce this, because they won't sell any of them once this thing gets out. That is assuming that the PR20EVS is implimented as well as the design looks.
Sorry, Eric, I must've been typing while you were posting. Thanks for the link.
By the way, excuse my 3rd finger on my left hand getting to the number keypad first.
It's Bosch's new "palm grip router". A lot like a laminate trimmer, but with higher amps, variable speed & soft start. Supposedly all for around a hundred bucks.
Looked at the link to WWJ; seems like a nice router, but I wonder why they used the square base. That (the round base) was the reason I bought a PC 310, which I like a lot.********************************************************

The other trim routers have square bases. Which, I guess, begs the question... Why does it have a square base?
My Dewalt has both square and round in the trim kit. The 20EVS is supposed to have a bunch of bases and other things being made for it. Wonder what they will be. I use the trim rounter any time I can. It seldom trims formica.
Anyway, I have a fellow that is getting some of these in and I am going to look it over as soon as I can. If it is as good as it looks, they have one customer!
If anyone spots one anywhere, let me know. I just got the Amazon Father's day catalog and I saw no trim routers in the Bosch section. I expect the PR20EVS to be out in the next 2 weeks.
I will be interested in what you think of it vs. the PC 310.I know what you mean about these trim routers; I have three, and I never use them for laminate stuff. For that, I always use a regular router.********************************************************

I'm a fan of the new Ridgid laminate trimmer. 6A permanent magnet motor, soft start, variable speed, carbide flush trimming bit included, plus edge guide and bearing guide in a hard case, and the reinstated lifetime warranty, all for around $100. It's a sweet little unit!http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/R2400-Laminate-Trimmer/index.htmRegards,Ron
The Ridgid also looked like a nice router. I went to see it and the fine adjustment does not seem to be very well thought out. In fact, it looks like they stopped the design before they finished. It uses a spur gear type of adjusment that is really kind of course and hard to set. The Bosch has two adjustments, the course (push it up and down in the sleeve) and then a fine thumbscrew adjustment that you use after you lock in the course adjustment. Kind of like a midline Milwaukee bodygrip.
Good point! I haven't been able to wrap my hands around the new Bosch yet...maybe I'll change my mind when I see it.Regards,Ron
The Bosch PR20EVS has not been released yet. I think that Bosch (wisely) held off release of the router until they depleated stock of the present line of trim routers. I expect the new router to be released soon from what I hear. If the realization is as good as the concept, I would be interested in having one.
Got an email today from All Pro Tools advertising the router...http://www.allprotools.com/store/index.htm
I picked up one of the PR20EVSK Bosch "Colt" variable speed palm routers last week.
My first impressions:
Fits the palm very well. Very comfortable to hold.
The quick adjustment is very well implimented and smooth. Just rotate the body slightly and push up and down in the base.
Fine adjust was sticky and very hard to move at first. The demo unit that a Bosch factory rep had at the dealer where I bought the router had one that was sticky also. For some reason it loosened up and is working well now.
The clamp is quick, positive and easy to use
You don't have the "tilting" of the base during adjustment that you have with many of the trim routers (which was one of my big interests).
It is very light. In fact, I think it is lighter than my Dewalt trim router.
It has a nice soft startup and speed control
At full speed, it has some amount of vibration--more than the Dewalt trim router. I don't know what the shaft TIR is, so I don't know if it is armature balance or shaft eccentricity.
The collet grips the router bits pretty hard even when fully loosened. I wonder why. My Milwaukee "body grip" has that problem also.
I would be interested in other people's observations on the vibration of the unit.
It cannot take Porter Cable guide bushings because the opening is too wide (good, but bad depending on whether you are focused on ease of seeing the work or are more interested in using guide bushings).
The case that it came in is not as rugged or as nice as the Dewalt cases.
It comes with an edge guide (which should be nice), wrench and instruction manual which is pretty decent. The price I paid was retail ($119).

Thanks for the review, Eric. I ordered one from All Pro. Will try to compare notes after I get it.
Yes, please do. I will be very interested in what you see for vibration. I felt that it would be somewhat tiring if I used it for long periods. We will see. Also the thing grips the bits very stongly. I would love to hear their explanation for that.
I also will be interested in what you find about the fine adjustment. I was very disapointed at first, but amazed that it seemed to free up somewhat magically when I got it home. I THINK the secret is to excercise the fast adjustment and fine adjustment a lot at first (possibly to spread the lubricant). The latch mechanism for the change over from fine to course is a spring loaded rod next to the fine adjustment thread.
Just what everyone needs, another "must have" router.
