Does any one know the difference between the Bosch 5412 miter saw and teh Bosch 4412 miter saw.
My wife is looking at getting me one (on the wish list) for Xmas but I don’t know the difference between the 2 saws. They both seem to be 12″ sliding dual bevel miter saws.
So what is the difference or is it only an upgrade to the new model (4412 is 2009 model ansd 5412 is 2010 model)?
She’s alos considering a 14″ bandsaw but isn’t sure where to buy one that I want. But that’s another thread.

Dan,
I can give you my two bits worth on the 14" Band Saw. My mitre saw is the Ridgid 12" which I have had no problems from. It was the moble base that closed the deal back when I bought it. At the time I was doing a lot of work away from the shop.
I have a 14" Rikon, it more than handles any thing I have asked it to do. It comes with 1 1/2 h.p. and has 2 speeds also, you get just over 13" of resaw capacity. A Lot more than most of the other saws out there. And you don't need to but a Riser block. The factory blade sucked & was changed out rather quickly. If I remember right I paid $895 @ Woodcraft, right now I think they are on sale. I imagine they can find the Ft. to deliver it?
By the way how is the work situation up there right now?

Dan, heres a pic of the Rikon
Looking at online descriptions the 5412 has laser built in. The descriptions aren't very elaborate, so it's hard to tell if there's anything else. Click here for a Fine Homebuilding review of the 4412.
Which to get may depend on availability and budget. I bought my 12" non-sliding Bosch saw after they had introduced a new model. Saved several hundred dollars, gave up the newly introduced up-front bevel setting and perhaps a couple other things (don't remember). I love the saw, it has been a solid performer.
