I was perusing the latest “Tool Crib” catalog when I ran across an ad for the BOSCH 1617EVSPK for 229.99. It includes a fixed and plunge base, a carrying case, an edge guide and a router mat. Sounded like a good deal.
Couple days later the catalog was gone. Wife threw it out. So I go to the tool crib website to try and buy the kit online.
I get directed to Amazon where not only do I get the kit for 229.99.. I also get a promotional 25 bucks off.. AND free shipping (-9.99).. AND no tax!
So what should have cost about $260..
ended up costing me $195..
or $175 if you figure in the tax I didn’t have to pay had I bought it at the store.

Bill,
Yes there is a God; He just expects us to use the senses He gave us :) I picked up the same tool package late last year at the WW show in Denver. You got me beat tho'; I paid 209.00 for mine. Good job. I've not been disappointed w/ mine though I'm (at this point) an occasional/hobbiest level user. Enjoy!

jd.. question for you. Did you get the dust collection attachment.. and if so, how good is it?
Bill,
Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I've been offline lately.
No I did not get the dust collection option though I wish I had when I sweep up... My only complaint so far is that the depth stop turret on the plunge base seems to wobble a wee bit. If I'm not consistent with my plunging force, I can get slight variability in depth. This is not a huge deal unless I'm concerned about a difference of ~1/64" or less...
Hope you enjoy your new toy, er tool. I just used mine this a.m. for the first time in a while and expect to be doing more soon as I've finally started a real project, a bookcase for someone's collection of recipe books.

Thanks, jd. I did get the DC hoods. I thought I was getting one for each base but they are both for the fixed base. One for edge work.. the other for middle of the board work.
There is one designed for the plunge base but it was not included in the DC kit I ordered.
There was, however, a DC hood with the edge guide which will suffice, in some cases, with the plunge base. (grooves and rabbets)

Used my new 1617EVS for the first time last night. All I can say is "ahhhhhhhhhh!" It is one sweet machine and so much more pleasurable to work with than either of my other routers.
Hope you enjoy yours.

Glad to hear it, Robbie.. I have just completed my hands on familiarization with the kit and am looking forward to firing her up.
