HELP!
My machinist dropped the arbor carrier for my Boice-Crane model 3500 table saw and broke it into about 5 pieces. I have contacted a few leads found on the internet(Myron Buehrer, Boice-Crane Parts, 2442 Densmore Drive, OH 43606; (419) 531-1113, comet enginering @ 909-987-3159 or e-mail [email protected]) to no avail and the machinist has given up.
Should I start looking for a new saw? Does anyone know if another saw arbor could be modified to fit.

Is it cast iron? Cast iron can be brazed or even welded by a talented welder. If it's possible to hold the pieces in their proper orientation, it shouldn't be too hard to fix it.
If you don't get any help here, post at Breaktime and say something in the title about the tractor guys.
With the stress factors involved in this piece would a braze hold up?
I think so. I've never heard anyone complaining about a brazed part failing in normal use.
The only thing that would worry me is if there were bored holes or other tight mechanical tolerances that didn't quite line up after brazing. If that happened, then reassembling it with the mating pieces might indeed overstress it.
Any tool can be repaired but at what price? Without having the saw and parts in front of me I would not even guess if it could be cobbled from some other manufacturer but I will speculate on twenty five years repairing tools it's highly unlikely. You might find a parts saw someday but cut your losses and buy something to replace it. Lots of choices these days compared to when that saw was built. Have you been to http://www.owwm.com
joeb,
Your machinist broke your tool, tell him to find a replacement part or make one! He above all people should know how to handle cast parts!!! I guess I should ask if he's your BIL or something and doing the job free/cheap before I make such a rash statement. If you're paying him going rate, he assumes some liability for the outcome! You break it, you fix it!
Good luck whatever you choose to do!
