I am wanting to build the seat frame for my Morris chair and I will be using 1-1/2″ x 2″ hard maple for the frame. Because I don’t have the proper dovetail bits for Leigh D4R to do through dovetails in 1-1/4″ material, I am thinking of using the supplied bit to do a blind dovetail. This setup will give a 3/4″ deep joint. I am wondering if this will be deep enough for strength or should I get the other bits and do the through dovetails instead?

I thought Morris chairs were all about M&T joints.
Oh, but of course they are. This is the frame for the spring seat to be upholstered and then set into the frame of the chair.
slop,
you have a 4-sided frame with 4 male tails fitting into 4 female dovetail mortises and these joints will be as deep as half the thickness of your material, right?
i would have deep confidence in a seat frame made this way and i think morris himself would approve.
