I am starting to finish an entertainment center that I am making for my wife & one of the pieces has a black spot that is very visible on the wood. I could have avoided this by selecting a different piece of wood, but I didn’t think it looked too awful until I applied the first coat of stain & it really jumped out. . Currently I only have 1 coat of stain on it.
From you experienced finishers out there…is there anything I can apply to get rid of this spot??? I have resized 2 pictures & attached. Thanks in advance for all of your help….

Try oxalic acid on it first. You should be able to pick some up at any hardware store as deck brightener or some such name. Be careful not to breathe the dust from it while mixing.

Thanks for the response. I am assuming that I need to thin the acid ? What ratio ???
Thanks again....
It will come as a dry powder, I'd follow label directions.
Appears to be a water stain, probably something with iron laid on it while it was wet.
If you use glue like titebond or elmers that cleans up with water, keep the steel clamps above the oak. Put thin slats of wood under each side of the clamp. As the other posts said, oxalic acid will bleach the stain out. From the pics, you will need more than one application. When done to your satisfaction the wood has to be wiped clean with clean water.Make sure the oak has all iron or steel tools off it.Wipe the wet wood dry as possible. You will have to sand again to remove the raised grain.
I do not recall the mix of acid to water, the instructions will tell you.
