Hi to All,
For anyone who has made a workbench based on the plan in Woodsmith No. 50, you’ll recall that instead of a tail vise, a “sliding dog assembly” is used. To hold work off the edge of the bench, e.g. a drawer, a special set of dogs called “bench edge vise clamps” were used. At the time of publication, these types of clamps were available through Woodcraft. I contacted WC recently only to discover that the clamps are no longer available and the manufacturer is no longer in business.
Anyone had any success making a pair of these clamps from material in your shop? If so, please share your knowledge. Pics, drawings, sketches would all be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Trusche2
I built that bench. It works well, but sometimes I wish it had a real tail vise.
If I understand you correctly, what you are describing is the special bench dog with a thredded clamp which allows it to push against another dog. These are still being made by Lee Valley/Veritas and marketed under the name "Wonder Dog". Here is the url: http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=41645&cat=1,41637
I hope this helps.
