This is my first post here in Knots. I’m usually lurking over in Breaktime. Anyhow here’s my question.
I’ve been looking at the Bench Dog router lifts for sometime. I’m talking about the heavy duty ones that take the big PC router. I believe they used to be called the Pro-Lift Ni or some such thing. Anyway, today I got an email from Allpro tools and noticed that they were selling what they call the Bench Dog Pro Lift 40-016 for $239. I already own the big PC so I thought why not? I haven’t seen them at that price before.
Just before I ordered I also see they have a model they call the Bench Dog 40-150. The picture looks the same but the price was $289 or $299, so I called Bench Dog’s 800 # and the technical support guy can’t see what the difference is either. Finally after him checking alot of specs, the only thing he can find is that on the “new, improved” BD Pro Lift 40-150 the snap-in rings are made out of plastic and on the 40-016 they are made out of steel. Steel sounds better to me.
My questions are 1) does anyone here know if there are any serious differences between these lifts? 2) Did I get a good price? 3) What are your impressions of these lifts?
Thank you for your responses.

I have had the Bench Dog 40-016 lift for a few years. I paid $300 for mine. It is an excellent lift and I would not trade it for any of the currently available lifts. The steel rings are somewhat of a pain as you have two screws holding them in and 3 leveling set screws. Also, I only have 3 different sizes. I wish I had a couple more with a larger ID selection. It's looks like the plastic inserts are also held in by screws and not a quick change type.
