I have a new Laguna 18bx bandsaw that has a jammed upper wheel. I got everything nicely aligned and it easily cut a few basic crosscuts, but troubles started as soon as I attempted a resaw cut in walnut. The blade snapped off and I found the upper wheel jammed against the top of the saw. Suggestions? Reached out to Laguna with no response yet. I suspect I need to loosen the wheel and try to realign everything.

I have a similar Laguna bandsaw. It’s hard to imagine the upper wheel itself jammed up against the frame. Do you mean that the broken blade is jammed between the upper wheel and the frame?
A picture would be helpful.

It’s most definitely the wheel all the way up to the housing. The only info I can find online with this situation is when the saw is brand new and a sudden release of tension will cause issues if the bolts holding the sliding apparatus aren’t tight. I’ll have to pull the wheel to get to the bolts but trying to hold off until Laguna gets back to be ie warranty issues. Thanks.
I'm not familiar with your saw. I have a Jet. I am of the opinion that the whole apparatus for the upper wheel is pretty much rinky dink. Other saws that I've seen in a similar price range aren't any better. So I looked at my saw and tried to think of a possible way for what happened to you to happen. If this is a new saw to you then there is no guarantee that everything that is supposed to be locked down tight is. On my saw there is a carriage that carries the wheel and axel and the tensioner. Mine has long slots in a frame where the wheel is through bolted and the wheel can move up or down in that slot. There is enough travel in that slot that if the wheel was all the way up it would most likely hit the housing. On mine this is prevented by the much shorter slot at the spring for the tensioner and ears on the what holds it all together that will limit the upward travel of the spring.
So dealing with hypotheticals: suppose you over tensioned your blade, suppose you over tensioned alot! I find that the scales on the tension adjustment to being almost useless and always tension to feel. The blade broke- is it possible that the release of tension on the spring with a big slam that could have had enough force to cause the wheel to by pass or even break the not very robust parts that should prevent that from happening?
What is jammed has to be the upper shaft bracket that slides up and down and tilts to adjust tracking. You have to remove the wheel to access it and may find it jammed by having exceeded its travel and be above the tracking ajustement screw or other component or just be of the rails.
Check the specs if you decide
to go for it, the holding nuts may be reverse threads.
Good call! I’ll have to pull the wheel as I can’t get to the bolts.
Sawblade.tv carries a lot of instructional videos for this problems on a bandsaw. Sounds like the blade failure may have caused the upper wheel to shift or bind. First, unplug the saw and carefully inspect the upper wheel area—look for any debris, damage, or signs that the wheel is off its shaft or bearings are seized. You may need to remove the wheel cover and loosen the wheel bolt to reset its position. Also, check the tensioning mechanism for any issues. It's good you contacted Laguna—they’re usually responsive, but it can take a few days. Don’t force anything until you’ve ruled out a mechanical failure.
Unfortunately still no contact from Laguna, this is apparently an issue, but disappointing nonetheless. I’m guessing the wheel jammed when the tension was suddenly released. I’ll check out their videos!
I wish I can help you with more. Laguna is going to be your first and last resort so I am hoping you'll hear from them soon.
