Band saw – resawing?
I have a 9″ bandsaw given to me as a present. It is very handy for my little projects but I have had no sucsess resawing. I’ve reset all adjustments, tracking, & gone to the thickest blade I could find (3/8″). I’m trying to resaw 4″ stock but still drifts way to much. I have the tension as tight as it will go??!!. I know it’s not meant for resawing but I thought maybe small light stock, maybe able to? Any suggestions?

To resaw you have to have widely spaced teeth on the blade with fairly deep gullets to carry the sawdust out of the kerf. You didn't say what type of a blade you have on your saw but I suspect it is finer than the 4 to 6 teeth per inch that would be the minimum spacing that would work, 3TPI would be even better. A dull blade, and they dull quickly, will also bog down and drift when resawing.

John,
Thanks for the reply. I have trouble buying a resaw blade @ 59 1/2". The best I could find is 3/8" wide blade with 4tpi. I've been using the table saw to resaw the boards, since I'm having the drift problem. The 9" saw maybe to much of a lightweight. Just looking for some insight!
Thanks again!

I would have thought that the 3/8" 4 TPI blade would work for resawing a 5" wide board, it would be adequate on a 14" band saw. The problem may be due in part to the fact that the blades for 9" saws are very thin steel to reduce stress breakage from going around such small diameter wheels. I also suspect that the quality of the blades you can get for such a small saw may not be that good.John W.
