Hey all:
Just picked up a cheap-o band saw from Grizzly, and I’ve never really used on before. I’m having a problem controlling my cut with it. Basically when I try to follow a line that I’ve pencilled onto the stock, I find myself wobbling back and forth, continuously having to overcorrect. The end result is horrible, it seems that I’m unable to cut a smooth curve.
Does this mean that my tension is set too low? Or do I need more practice? Both? I’m almost ready to go back to by handheld jigsaw!
Thanks in advance,
Charlie

Charlie, you didn't specify what size bandsaw you bought or what blade you are using (teeth per inch, width of blade -- is it the stock blade that came with the saw?). That info would be helpful.
Seems there's a good chance the tension is too low, but give us some more info here. My Grizzly catalog is ready for consultation.

Morning Charlie
I agree with forestgirl, need more info, however my first guess would be the blade that came with the saw is to narrow...you need a blade that gives a wider kerf...and practice, practice. Get in contact with a good band saw supplier, and they will direct you correctly. It took me three or four tries before I hit on the blade that works for me.
Take care, and enjoy the trip

Not quite right adjustment on the guide blocks.
Guide blocks are worn out.
The top blocks are too far above the material you are trying to cut.
Try to keep it a quarter to a half inch. Less when you get better at it.
Blade dull.
You have cool blocks instead of rollers.
Blade speed too slow or rate of cut too fast.
There are two excellent bandsaw books. One is by Lonnie Bird, the other by Mark Duginske. Get one of them. Either will tell you how to set up and align your saw. Then they will tell you what blade to use for the different thicknesses of wood and types of cut. They will also tell you how to get the best out of your saw.
Also Louis Iturra's catalog. Its an excellent source of info, and the price is RIGHT.
Charlie,1st safety, then trial and error and whatever advice is provided to you from your fellow woodchuckers.Enjoy.
I wonder if he's still around? Helllllloooooo, Charlie???!!
