For large 3 1/4 hp routers, is an aluminum plate insert really necessary or will the 3/8″ phenolic plates provide adequate support? The aluminum plates are about 60% more expensive so I’m wondering if they are necessary and/or worth it.

I replaced the plastic (bench dog) after about a 1.5 years...and that was using a #621 dewalt. The Rockler appears to be working fine...we'll see...Norm style router table
I like the Jessem plate (phenolic). I see no bow from the weight of the router (Hitachi M12).
No it isn't necessay but the aluminum ones are nice. I have both and they both do a fine job.
