6″ Powermatic Vs 8″ Shopfox jointers
This is my first posting in Knots. I am building a one man shop in Ma. I need a jointer for my first project here, A Craftsman style teak dining table 4 foot by 10. The legs are 4″ thick and the top is 2″ Does anybody own a Shopfox jointer? For the same money it weighs twice as much as the 54A and has 8″ blades. I know Powermatic is good I have the 66 TS for 16 years. What to do?

Look for a larger used jointer. Your on the east coast, should be easy find. For the cost of an import a nice old machine can be found.

I'm in Western MA. Plenty of sources within 100 miles such a Want Advertiser Bargain News, plenty of dealers in VT, CT and MA for new and used machines.
I own a PM54A and it is very good, but I agree that an 8" unit makes more sense. i don'y know about Shopfox, but Wilke Machines has good prices on Their Bridgewood & Yorkcraft lines. Thier shipping is reasonable and they are running sales right now.
Good Luck,
John
(Want to buy a 54A with a Shelix cutterhead?)
Where are you and how much are you asking? What type of cutter head is that?
Check out the Grizzly G0500. You will not be disappointed with quality and the price is hard to understand, it's so cheap! Mine arrived within a week of order, in excellent shape. You will definately appreciate the 8" width. Another thing I like about the Grizzly is the 75" table.
