Greets All!
I’m a new guy this forum and to woodworking. My current project (I’d post pictures of a previous project, but my personal evaluation seems to have softened my normally thick skin!) is a suggestion box for work. The design is adapted from a plan for a home mail box.
The lid of the mail box meets the sides at a 45 degree angle. This lid is the obvious place to place the slot to deposit suggestions. The slot could be milled at a 90 degree angle to the face of the lid, but it would be difficult to deposit the suggestion into the box. Ease of use would be accomplished if the slot was milled at 45 degrees so the suggestions would tend to drop to the bottom of the box rather than hit the front on its way in.
My thought to cuts this slot was to build a 45 degree jig for the drill press table and establish the ends of the slot with increasingly larger bit, then connect the drilled holes with a jig saw.
Am I on the right track?
Thanks to all who respond. Pardon me if my questions and responses are delayed a bit. I must accomplish some tasks for she who allows me to play with machines and fill our garage with sawdust!

Rather than wrestle with a 45 degree slot, I believe I would slice the top lengthwise into three pieces. Then cut a 45 degree miter on the center (wider) piece. Finally, glue all three sections together, spacing the metered sections to leave the width of slot you desire.

First of all welcome to Knots!
I understand what your trying to do but a simpler way would be to round over the edges of the slot. If the wood is 4 quarter (3/4" thick) then I would use a 5/16 radius round over bit. If you don't have one or don't want to buy one then a 1/4 radius would work as well.
I would otherwise use a chamfer bit on the top of the slot then flip the lid and do the same of the bottom. (A little hand work to clean up the corners.) The end result will be the slot will be vertical when lid is on the box.

I've always enjoyed suggestion boxes with no slot at all. ;-)
Ralph,
Or one with no bottom, and trash can below.

Amazon has them for $19.99.

Wow! You beat me to the punch! I've spent more than a few hours looking for a shredder shat would take a ream of paper and perhaps and arm if the the 'suggester' held on too long!
Here you go! A ream at a whack!

A paper shredder is top of the line for a suggestion box...
