I would like to contact someone who could help me in possibly selling several hundred board feet of 110 year old oak barn wood. I tore down a barn in SW Missouri (about 60 miles from my home in NE Oklahoma) and used a few of the ~10″ x 10″ beams in remodeling of my house. I added a 20′ x 24′ kitchen/dining room to my house with a cathedral ceiling that I installed these beams. I used the existing round pegs to attach and used the mortise and tenant bracing as much as possible. I installed a #3 oak hardwood floor and used the siding to trim the room. Then we installed costume oak cabinets. It turned out great. All we did to the beams was brush clean and polyurethane them. I must say it turned out fantastic. Now the problem, we finished it just before my daughter’s wedding (we had the reception there) 9-22-02 and since my job has taken me to Brea California. We are sadly going to have to sell the house and the ten acres. I have a lot of the wood left and want to sell some of it. I will have to move it back to Missouri for storage if not sold. There is not much of a market in the Midwest for this kind of product and am wondering if someone would know of a market that I might contact. I spent mega hours tearing this barn down and really hate to “give” it away. I have about 50 or so of the beams left and a five gallon bucket full of the wooden pegs. The pegs were hand made as well. I can send pictures of the house after we were finished to show how they can be used. If anyone is really interested, it could be arranged that they could see the house and beams. Thanks for any help in this matter.

Have you thought about Ebay?
Contact one of the companies that recycles old timbers. You might get only wholesale prices, but it's better than nothing and you'll know the wood found the proper home somewhere.
What is the range of lengths that you have. I have toyed with the notion of rebuilding our garage (which needs it anyway) in a post and beam style. I think I would enjoy the work, and your beams might do the trick. Of course, shipping would be a bit of an expense to the East Coast.
Where exactly in SW Missouri? I was just down at Table Rock Lake. You near there?
How much are you asking for the beams? How long are they, and approximately how much do each weigh?
Thanks,
Michael

Have you been to Brea yet? If not be prepared for sticker shock! The cost of living in that area will much higher than what you are used to in the midwest.
I'm interested in the barn wood!

You don't, really. ;-)
But, if I bought it all in 2003, there may not be much left. ;-)
