I am in the market for a new combination blade for my tablesaw and wondered if anyone has had any experience with the CMT 50 tooth combination blade. I have the CMT stacked dado and I am very well pleased with it. I can purchase the combination blade locally for approximately $64.
Thanks

The first thought that jumped to mind is that 50 teeth is a lot of teeth for a combo blade. What thickness stock do you anticipate working, especially in ripping operations? I use a 40-tooth Freud blade most of the time, and the Forrest WWII is a 40-tooth blade, stated to be excellent for ripping up to 2" thick stock. A 50-tooth blade is going to limit you to, what?, maybe 1.5" thick? Performance would suffer above that thickness.

I think that you will find that 40 tooth general purpose blades are not good for ripping wood thicker than 1" without burning. Forrest recommends that their 30 tooth blade be used for ripping 1 - 1 1/2" stock and their 20 tooth blade be used for stock thicker than 1 1/2".
The 50 tooth combo blades have 4 ATB teeth and a raker. The raker allows the blade to rip hardwood better than a 40 tooth blade when the stock is thicker than 3/4".
Hi Howie, I was just passing along some info from the Forrest web page that covers the WWII:http://www.forrestblades.com/woodworker_2.htm
To wit:"With this one all purpose blade you can RIP & CROSSCUT 1" to 2" rockhards and softwoods resulting in a smooth as sanded surface"
and
"Use 30T version if ripping mostly 2" - 3" Thick hardwoods. "
Your comments reinforce my intuitive statement, and support the question I asked:"What thickness stock do you anticipate working, especially in ripping operations?"
Now, you've made me realize I'm not sure whether I have the 40-tooth or the 50-tooth Freud blade! Sheesh, this aging stuff sucks.forestgirl Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>) you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

It is an excellent blade and I think it is as good as the 50 tooth Freud combo blade. It crosscuts very well and rips up to 1" stock without burning.
