Modeling Mitered Half-Blind Dovetails in SketchUp
As a follow-on to his recent blog post on modeling angled dovetails, Dave Richards thought it would be interesting to take a look at how Chris Gochnour’s dovetails can be modeled.
In his Contemporary Sideboard from issue number 277, Chris Gochnour uses some beautiful if unusual dovetails to join the case parts. As a follow-on to my recent blog post on modeling angled dovetails, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how Gochnour’s dovetails can be modeled. In this video I show a method using only native tools that is quick and simple. The general process could also be used for modeling other joinery. I expect you’ll find ways to put it to use in your modeling as well.
Now that you have it modeled in SketchUp, take it to the shop!
