Recently, during a long stretch of using a router on my workbench, I realized that reaching down time after time to retrieve the hose for my shop vacuum from the floor was making my back ache. I tried setting the hose on the bench, but that didn’t work.
So I fastened a spring clamp to my workbench vise and then hooked my vacuum hose over one of the handles. Now it’s always within reach. The setup worked so well I added my brush nozzle to the other handle of the clamp.

Shop Fox W1826
The thick, felted bag on this Shop Fox is a plus and a minus. On one hand, it makes the unit much less expensive than collectors with canister filters, and also lighter and easier to hang on the wall. Without a separate plastic bag to catch chips, however, they stay in the felt bag, and the shortish zipper on the bottom makes it tough to shake them out. Otherwise, the W1826 is an excellent value.
Stanley Powerlock 16-ft. tape measure
With its smooth lock, tough case, compact size, and excellent accuracy, this Stanley tape is perfect for workshop use.
Rockler Dust Right 650 CFM
While all five of the smaller units will collect chips efficiently when deployed properly, the 3/4-hp Rockler was just a bit more powerful in our suction test.
