Enlarging Flute Bores Revisited
Here’s my variation on the method Vasco Pini uses to enlarge the bores of flutes (Fine Woodworking #35, p. 16). First drill a pilot hole through the flute blank with a 1/4-in. shell auger. Then construct a follower bit by cutting a slot in a short length of 1/4-in. rod and slipping it over the tip of a spade bit. The rod will follow the pilot hole, and the spade bit will self-center.
