In this video Workshop, Adrian Ferrazzutti shows you step-by-step, how to build beautiful boxes sporting intricate geometric veneer patterns. Despite their complex appearance, Ferrazzutti’s veneered boxes rely on simple glue-up and resawing techniques that work together to make boxes graced by dazzling stripes.
Growing up an only child in Ontario, Adrian Ferrazzutti watched his German-born grandfather carve logs and antlers into whimsical animal sculptures. Both Ferrazzutti’s mother and his grandparents were antique dealers who liked to live with many of their finds before selling them, so he was always surrounded by extraordinary furniture and artifacts.
The furniture Ferrazzutti produces reveals an excellent eye for form and line coupled with engineering savvy. What’s not so obvious in his complex yet fluid-looking work is the amount of effort required to arrive at an acceptable design. It’s not uncommon for him to make two, three, or four full-size mockups before beginning final construction.
