Editor's Review: Tool Test: Hybrid Tablesaws

by Tom Begnal

review date: December 1, 2007

The Delta 36-717 includes a 14-in.-wide side table with support legs. It showed fair parallelism in our tests. I tested blade-to-slot parallelism (parallel test) and the machine showed 0.008-in. (at 0º) and 0.008-in. (difference @ 45º). It needed a simple trunnion adjustment to fix this. The procedure is covered in the manual. The tablesaw has good cutting power and its miter gauge is especially sturdy and comfortable. I also checked arbor runout (measured at the face of the arbor-flange) and it had 0.001-in.

I bought a Delta table saw because it was advertised as a hybrid of the unisaw. I am disapointed in the fit and finish. the throat plate is not flat. It does not represent the quality that I expect from Delta tools. The next time I buy a table saw, I will pay a little bit more money for quality.
