I am a novice wood worker, that only uses the drill press occasionally. However, since I expected to have the drill press forever, I wasn't necessarily just shopping based on low price. I settled on this drill press after looking at the other bench drill presses, and reading other reviews (mostly negative) about the more esteemed brand names. I didn't find any consensus "best" brand for drill presses, like you do with Porter Cable for routers, just to give an example. For the money, it is hard to beat. Sears puts this model on sale frequently, and sometimes in combination with their Craftsman Club member days. The power is more than I have needed so far, which gives me confidence that I will not be disappointed down the road. The laser crosshair was spot on, as received. After a lot of use, it did get knocked out of alignment, but is easy to reset with the instructions. I recommend a shop made drill press table and fence. The one that is included is a clumsy gimmick, and is not a replacement for the setup most woodworkers eventually arrive at.
