Editor's Review: Cordless Screwdrivers Do One Thing Very Well

by Asa Christiana

review date: July 1, 2006

The 10.8v, lithium-ion-powered, Bosch PS20 cordless screwdriver fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and is powered by a lithium-ion battery, which is smaller and lighter than a nickel-cadmium battery of the same voltage. It also has a nose-mounted light that’s helpful inside dark cabinets. Despite it's petite size, the driver is powerful in driving screws and has a reasonable battery life on a single charge.

I've used this for a year. Great tool, light, powerful for the size. The battery lasts longer than the second one needs to recharge, so it's always ready.

Excellent small cordless drill.I have two of them now, and have started using them in the shop, and on the job, installing cabinets, doors, etc.Battery life between charges is excellent. The light on the drill is handy for inside cabinet work, though it could be refined somewhat and point more towards where the bit or drill is actually at, instead of at the bottom.

I'm a professional woodworker and own six drill motors. Since I purchase the Bosch, its the only one I use. I like the power and the weight as will as the light. Great tool.

Bought it to do some overhead work and I am really glad I did. Lightweight, easy to hold and keep in a tool pouch. As a woman, I think this is the drill/driver to reach for to improve control because of the light weight.

The electrician, plumber and finish carpenter have bought one after using mine while building my house. They all said they use it for hardware installation and it fits their purposes well.

I've had this for a few days and absolutely love it. It's perfect for working overhead or in tight spaces. I use this whenever I can instead of my 24v drill.

It's small, light, and powerful. The battery charge lasts, I screwed 3" screws into seasoned joists for an hour and a half.

BEST FOR DRIVING PRECISION SCREWS ALTHOUGH IT IS SLOW, IT WILL DRILL WHEN NECESSARY. THE LIGHT WEIGHT IS GREAT AND YOU CAN GET IT INTO TIGHT PLACES.

over all this driver is good, the downs for me are the same with most tools. It is not friendly to those of us who are left handed, the forward and reverse switch is always in the way and is to easily moved. The carrying case is always a after thought for tool designers, nothing fits well and the tool is not secured adequately or easily.

Have several larger Porter Cable cordless drill drivers in the shop. However, this tool is ergonomic, light weight, and can very conveniently be used inside cabinets. The ability to interchange bits are done without any difficulty whatsoever. I am very pleased with this purchase. If any change at all, it would be the carry case. Would prefer a hard molded case for durability and security.Sal Sclafani, Dallas, Texas

Does everything I could ask for. So far I've used for installing backer for crown molding, attaching hinges, electrical...I'm glad I did no purchase a $200+ big heavy drill.

this tool does what the maker clames and then some . it is a pleasuer to use

I have had the opportunity to use this tool and in numerous tight quarter applications it is an awesome tool. Particularly anyone needing to install hardware like drawer hardware inside pre installed cabinets it becomes an indispensable addition and real productivity tool.

This is the drill I now reach for. Absolutely comfortable and with the included extra battery I have never run out of power.

I bought two of these beauties to clad the exterior of a new property. I have used them for all types of work & they just keep on going. The battery life & charge time is excellent.Well done Bosch for a real excellent piece of kit.Cape Town, South Africa

bought it because it looked interesting and was plesantly surprised it is really a great screwdriver the best I ever had. perfect for an old geezer like me

I bought the PS20 after a demo by a local tool store. It is not that I really needed another drill/driver, but this tool is so light and powerful I couldn't resist. I helped my cousin build a deck and this little driver had no problem driving 3" stainless screws. The light is an added bonus for woodworkers with "older" eyes. Slow speed is an issue for big projects, but I find it very handy for building furniture or other projects around home. I hope to see more lighter tools with lithium-ion technology.

Finally something with some torque that fits in your tool pouch. The down side is that it is slow, but it is a screw driver not necessarily a drill.Saves your shoulders if you've been using an 18V as a catch all tool.

This was a gift from my son. I have told him it is the best gift he has ever given me. It is light, compact and powerful. I use lots of pocket screws. It goes in many places I couldn't get in before, with plenty of torque to turn screws all the way in. The light is a bonus. Just a great tool. Dennis

The best features are the size and light weight. When used as a drill the chuck is a little sloppy for accurate work. It would be great if Bosch had a drill chuck attachment so you could use any drill bit.I like Bosch tools, but I'm not convinced about this one yet.

Small and light but powerful. Gets into tight places easily. Light is possibly a bit naff but can be useful. Only downside is the speed is a bit slow for drilling but then it is supposed to be a screwdriver.
