Tambour Toy Chest
To avoid lids pinching small hands, I installed a two tambours which form the lids and sides. Magnets embedded in the tambour rails keep the list closed and two small wooden toy wheels act as knobs (and the wheels can be twirled!). The tambours disappear into a ‘false bottom’ and allow you to open them to expose the top or to expose the tops and sides. The front and back are locked with dovetails at the bottom and cherry dowels at the top (which double as carrying handles). The tambours can be removed if necessary by removing the false bottom and directing them out via a tambour track extension.
