New grade 10 intro project
I had to come up with a new project for my grade 10 woodworking class as the old shaker clock project was eating up too much of the budget in hardware. I made this Birch box from an old 8/4 board that had been used in the auto bay as a pry bar. It is modeled somewhat after James Krenov’s box that he made in 1969. It will require fine tuning but the goal is to have students do pinned rabbet joints, bridle joints, and frame and panel construction There is also some added artisitic elements when picking wood for the top and handles.
The added woods in this box are Mountain Cypress, Bubinga and Wenge.
The black line spalting in the lid looks very much like oil slicks, fitting for the mangled board I dragged from the autobay:)
The box measures 31 cm L x 22 cm W x 12 cm H
Finished with blonde shellac and wax
