19th Century Hand Made Pine Pie Safe with Punched Tin Door Panels
This is my design of a 19th Century Pie Safe that was built in Laurens County Georgia in the 1840’s. Completely built by hand from reclaimed Southern Yellow Pine it’s dimensions are:
All of the wood is hand planed using old stanley #5 jackplane for bringing to rough thickness # 4 for smoothing and a #7 for jointing. The door panels are antique copper with a fireworks design. The 3 fixed interior shelves are a full 17″. The top is made from 200 year old reclaimed pine and is finished with boiled linseed oil to show it’s natural grain then finished with hand rubbed shellac. Inside is painted with Olympic buttercream semi gloss paint. The sides & doors are also oiled then hand rubbed and finished with shellac. The back is 1/2″ pine hand cut panels then ship lapped and nailed on to the cabinet with replica nails of the period.
