Kitchen island in butternut
I built this island as a freestanding table, with an open shelf below for nice cookware. It is made of butternut.
Soapstone is a great countertop surface for woodworkers. You can machine it yourself with carbide sawblades and bits, and cut curves with diamond-coated jigsaw blades. It sands easily and finishes nicely with linseed oil.
A sliding-dovetail cleat supports the corbel. I hand-carved the volute and added the decorative pegs at each joint.
