walnut box

walnut box with cherry tray.   I finished the outside of the box with oil and used shellac for inside the box. This box has solid brass 90-degree stop hinges.

mahogany box: 300x200x120mm, with hand veneered sapele base. I used only hide glue. I finished the outside of the box with teak oil, then thinned polyurethane, and used shellac for inside the box.

It is difficult to see from my photo but there is a series of louver windows on the upper left side. My friend wanted the louver doors to match the windows. When he asked me to make the doors I said to him 'You'd better ask joiner. I don't think I can make this one...'. His answer was 'I am sure you can!'. And that was it. He and his wife looked happy when I hung the door.

Thank you, Gina. I have just posted pictures that show how I made it. This Gallery is a great idea, and I'm very happy to be able to post my works as I learned most of my woodworking skills from Fine Woodworking magazines! Tatsu
