I am a woodworker interested in all forms and styles who works with a mixture of power and hand tools. I launched my blog and The Renaissance Woodworker podcast in August of 2008 where I talk about woodworking and take everyone along for the ride in my shop whatever I am building. In the last year I have moved much more into the hand tool realm and am focusing my work on the Queen Anne and Federal periods.

Re: Blue Spruce paring chisels: too pretty to use?
I have a few of Dave's work of art chisels. My favorite by far is the 1" wide long paring chisel. It is so well put together and balanced that it feels like an extension of your hand. The steel quality is excellent and these hold and edge for a long time. The extra length provides great leverage when working on delicate parts and it slices through end grain beautifully with the lower bevel angle. Truly a game changer in my shop.

I've read some great reviews on this book and would love to add it to my library. Thanks for the opportunity.

Looks great Matt, can't wait to see your box design. What a beautiful palette you have to work with though. I hope you will share how each of these woods work too as I have only ever worked with the Claro.

Poor Brianna, she was out sick. You have to go back now Tom, she could be the next Maloof or Krenov just waiting for your inspiration!

Thanks for putting this up. I saw the cabinetmakers building this in the Hay shop when I was down in Williamsburg in October and was hoping to get a better look at it. I hope you share your build with us.

Great event guys, keep these up. I don't think they all have to be shoot outs either, but perhaps just a demo of a technique or something. As a podcaster and blogger I am really excited to see this kind of supplemental content.

Great coverage Asa and I am so jealous. I had planned on making it down to this event and it just isn't in the cards. I was in Wiliamsburg back in mid October and got to watch the guys in the Hay shop working on these pieces for the show. I got to watch a lot of work on the Campeachy Chair and it has since made it onto my list of must build projects. Thanks for covering this for the rest of us who can't make it.

Re: Splittin' Cane
I started fly fishing long before I discovered woodworking. I have restored several bamboo rods and this post got me thinking about making one from scratch using my new woodworking skills. Thanks for the post and the reason to synthesize my two passions!
