Re: A Thank You To Taunton Press and Fine Woodworking

The digital world came to my rescue. We had to lose some stuff and mountains of FW had to go (to a good home I might add). But now I can have the CD and have it ALL! FW's jump to the cybermedium has been a huge plus in my involvement and interest. Watching Garrett Hack do his little tool cabinet was spellbinding. A magazine just isn't the same! PLEASE ask Garrett to do more. Now I can compare HOW I do things, approach situations, plan and use tools to a master like him who makes it look so easy. I watch every move of his hands.
Thanks FW. I am a dedicated FWW.com user now. I learn best by watching so please increase video content.

Re: 8 non-woodworking tools for woodworkers

Amen to the leafblower to clean out the shop. Two minutes with that and 400 sq feet of shop are clear of dust.... on top, underneath and round the back. And the lawn seems to appreciate the extra "organics"! Handy tip from Caddyshack!!

Re: Neglected Tablesaw Gets Some Attention

I had been doing some welding in my shop for a year or two helping family with their business and my Griz got more and more rusty, neglected and nasty looking. All manner of weld splatter and iron filings from grinding welds etc, fell on it. My metal working period is now done so a week or two ago I stripped the 1023. Removed top, cleaned and graphited the trunions, ways and screws then realigned the top to blade, burnished the top and paste waxed it. Checked the fence (Biesemeyer) and it was still right on. The Griz is shiny and happy again and purrs through the work. Nice to be making shavings again instead of weld splatter!

Re: The Wacky Tool File

I was given a digital tape measure a few years ago that I still haven't figured out how to use (or probably couldn't be bothered to). It is big and bulky too. There's no way I plan to carry that thing around or spend valuable time figuring out all the wonders it can perform which I don't need. All I need is a quality durable recoil mechanism and a clear scale that doesn't scrape off.

Re: UPDATED: Giveaway and Poll: The Most Requested Woodworking Gifts of 2009

I thought I was making progress in the race to have it all! As I am thoroughly reworking my shop content and layout this proved interesting. I am moving more toward handtools so Santa could leave me a nice, softly glowing LN low angle jack. I would be a very happy shaver with one of those.
