Re: Triangle

Absolutely stunning! Outstanding job.

Re: "TEMPLE" dining table

Nick,
You received some harsh criticism as well as nice compliments on this project. Please allow me to add my own 2 cents. In the proper setting this table will look very nice....it is definately unique. However as an admirer of your work, you have posted projects that appear so difficult that I wouldn't know how to even start building them. This one however, I think I could do......so I guess I could call call it average at best since I am only capable of average woodworking projects and could never complete something worthy to be called Fine Woodworking.

Re: Please leave a Message at the Beep....

Mark,
I was trying to find a way to contact you without exposing it to everyone on this site....unfortunately I couldn't figure out a way. I started off by saying "please don't take this the wrong way" but unfortunately you did. I have seen your previous posts and they are fantastic, hence the reason I wrote to you in the first place. I didn't expect a post like that coming from someone who truely can post examples of fine woodworking. I don't have any posts on this site because none of mine are worthy to be included along side with the others. I do have several posted on Lumberjocks where they belong....a dynamite clock, a domino cutting board.....I even included a picture of an Albino Squirrel in my back yard.
I look to Lumberjocks for ideas and projects that I am capable of doing and to read stories like your Xylophone story. I look at this site for real craftsmanship and incredible woodworking and post that are far above my capibilities. It's very frustrating when you have to decipher through posts of $3.00 pen kits, step stools and a stack of lumber that say "project in the making" in order to find a fine woodworking project. Don't get me wrong, both websites have their place in this industry but I am certain you can agree that they are hardly interchageable. It was never my intentions to belittle your work or to anger you.

Re: Please leave a Message at the Beep....

I truely understand the fun of this posting and please don't take this the wrong way but to keep this site true to it's name, this posting would be better served on lumberjocks.com instead of Fine Woodworking.

Re: Pistol Box

Beautiful box. I bet it looks even better filled with th gun, magazine and bullets. It a shame it will have to be kept in a theft proof safe most of the time.

Re: Twin Bonnet Tops

Very nice.
What in the world is on TV in picture #2........HELLO!

Re: Maple coffee table

The thicker top gives it a heavy, solid look while the thinner base and the openings (air space) between the legs even out the look. I am not an artist and only a weekend woodworker, but I like this a lot. Big thumbs up.

Re: 'Wave' desk

This my friend........is awesome!

Re: Cache boite electrique

I agree with what the other 2 gentlemen have commented.

Re: 'Trunk - Shrub' side table

May I please come over and touch this.

Re: workbench

If Tre magnifique! means Super Duper!.....I second the motion.

Re: walnut table with red date palm and walnut top

I too noticed the Sam Maloof inspiration. It was confirmed once I read that you used his rub on poly/oil finish.
Nice job.

Re: Son's Maple Bookcase

Absolutely beautiful. Incredible job of poping the grain. I especially like the sloped top design.
Keep making sawdust.

Re: Rice Paddy Inspired Cabinet

This my friend, is really awsome.

Re: Living Room Coffee Table

Very, very nice. The view from the top, which is the part you see the most, is absolutely stunning. The dark edges draw your eye to and accent the beautiful striping perfectly.
Well done.

Re: Making sawdust

They make safety glasses that fit children......and fathers. Keep him interested but keep him safe.

Re: Showcase with TV Lift and Hidden Jewelry Storage

Very, very nice. I especially like the look of the curved and, (for lack of a better word), tapered legs. Beautiful wood and color choice.

Re: Not Your Father's Entertainment Center, but it looks like it at first.

Incredibly clever design. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, be prepared to be flattered.....this idea will be copied by several people. Thank you for posting.

Re: 1482 optical table

Actually I guess I meant side grain up if there is such a saying.

Re: 1482 optical table

I like this a lot. I would like to copy this idea but in a much smaller table. Is it all end grain up like in a cutting table?

Re: Mizuya-dansu Kitchen Cabinet

Looking at the first picture, it never dawned on me that this might be 2 seperate pieces. I really like the fact that they are not 2 identical pieces placed on top of each other. I think that is what caused me to oversee what now seems obvious.
Your choice of woods is stunning. Very nice piece.

Re: Chess Set, Table, & Chairs

Unbelievably amazing.

Re: Display Cabinet / Clever Door

Now this my friend, is very creative and attractive. I am giving you credit for making the wooden clock as well.

Re: Toy Cabinet

Very nice - but I know those baskets are annoyingly costly.

Re: Entry Way Cabinet

The satisfaction of crossing something off the honey-do list especially when it scores you points with the missus and looks as stunning as this.
Nice job.

Re: How to build a table, in 60 seconds

Although not as agitated as most of your watchers, I still would have watched this video and enjoyed it more even if you had you been "less clever" in you title.

Re: Classical Guitar

I am the furthest thing away from being musically inclinded so I can only imagine the great pride you had once you finished this project. How awsome it will be the first time someone compliments your guitar's looks or sound and you will be able to respond "Thanks, I made it myself"
Keep strumming or makinging sawdust.

Re: Switchback bookcase

I sensed this was a winner back on July 8th & again on July 14th. I'm glad other people noticed as well. Congratulations.

Now that I revisited your creation I have another question. The tall "book end" pieces (mainly shelves 2-6) don't come to a corner. Did you just angle butt-joint that piece with the upper and lower shelves or did you grove in an angled dado joint to accept it.

Re: Harry Potter Wands

You are still 5 wands behind. The going rate is one wand per book!
You keep up the good woodworking and tell her to keep up her good reading.

Re: Iris Corner Table

I love everything about this table. Crisp and clean yet enough detail to make it interesting. I don't know it the photography aids this, but the finish looks incredible.

Re: The Nest

I absolutely love this. Would you be willing to share your plans/dimensions with me so I could try and build one?

Re: Switchback bookcase

Thanks for the answer to the dovetail question.
So far you have my vote for the bookcase winner. The greatest thing about this design is that I could see this bookcase in the simplest dorm room all the way to the most famous CEO's personal office. A fancier home den/office seems most appropriate. Wonder what it would look like with doors on the bottom few levels?
Keep producing sawdust.

Re: Switchback bookcase

How do you cut dovetails into and end that is not 90 degrees.....all by hand?

Re: Knotty Alder Entertainment Center

Very nice. I especially like the idea of being able to see the reddish color behind the shelves instead of a wood backing. I'm assuming its the painted wall.

Re: Cherry Bookcase and Bar

Very, very nice. Looks expensive. Cha-Ching!

Re: TV/Computer Tray

I like the clever idea and workmanship. However, the thought of a drink tipping over on the top of this, with the lap top underneath, frightens me a bit.

Re: Hope Chest

Very, very nice. Really love the idea of the 4 seperate keepsake boxes inside. Bet it made for a very memorable gift. Congrats to you and your daughter. May her marriage last 70+ years and your gift 5 times longer than that.

Re: Chestnut Ratchet Lamp

I love it. Everone knows a woodworker lives in this house as soon as they see the lamp. Is it "tippy" when raised to it's highes position and how did you conceal the cord?

Re: 1.75 carat emerald cut workbench

You are much better off with the work bench!
