I did not read all the comments but it seems that the drawback of this system, is that you must touch the guard to activate the compacitance touch sensor. So if you kept your hand low enough and don't touch the guard, you can still lose a finger.

My tip would be to never work when you are tired or when you become tired. I find that when I am tired, I get lazy, begin to take shortcuts, and make mistakes. A sharp, fresh mind and an alert attitude is your best safety feature.
