Re: Bending Dovetails

So the rabbits for the added blocks are to try to hide the glue lines at the line to curve transitions on the outside?

It also seems to add visual weight to the top similar to the effect you would get if the top was really very thick to begin with and then you hogged out the underside to lighten it up. There is not much weight added to the sides due to the flat pin bottoms. I suppose games could be played with the grain directions of the added blocks for different effects.

I would guess you could do something similar to the shelves to side transitions with say a built up sliding dovetail to give the shelf to side transition more weight.

I am sure many will find your technique useful!

Re: Are WoodRiver's new block planes good enough to knuckle down in the shop?

I haven't used them but they look a lot like the very old block planes used a very long time ago in entry level woodworking training or even in woodshop classes at the junior high or high school level.

What was wrong with the previous design? Was it too expensive to make with those threads and nut design? At least they could give some marketing spin on why these are better than the previous generation.
Or is this some reaction to another manufacturer threatening to take legal action against WoodRiver?

Re: UPDATED: Giveaway and Poll: The Most Requested Woodworking Gifts of 2009

My Wish list:
Time, Skill, Inspiration, Wood, Space, a Powermatic or General Mortiser, some way to organize my tools, having my young daughter develop a fascination with sharpening so that I wouldn't have to sharpen my own tools especially the ones I have abused. Pure fantasy I know but I can dream can't I?
