Re: Black (and very green) locust workbench

You may not realize the future impact this bench may have on your son-in-law and grandson. I have a few hand tools and tool chest of my grandfather's that occasionally get used. Every time one comes out of the chest, I'm reminded of him, and it brings a smile. I'm sure the bench will out live you, but your memory will live on!!

Re: Newport Tea Table

The top is 1 piece (1" thick), and the carving is not applied. The edge is first bandsawed to shape. Next, I used a compass to layout the width of the carved edge (1 1/4") and routed the rest of the top surface 9/16" deep. The bead and ogee are then just carved and cleaned up with scrapers. I don't consider myself a good carver as it took me about a week to carve and clean up the top. I think I had about 400 hrs. total in the piece. Good thing I'm not doing it for a living!

Re: Chippendale Miniature Blanket Chest

Thanks. The brass knobs are from Horton Brasses and the escutcheons from Kennedy Hardware. The original has cast brass escutcheons, but I couldn't find any small enough. These are stamped brass. They'll do for now!

Re: Winchester Tall Clock

Great clock! I have a tallcase clock fetish, and this one has all the perfect proportions, lines, and curves. Todd, you've created your own family heirloom! I know Jeff and Steve and know they are both excellent teachers- as is proven with your beautiful piece.
I never tried potassium dichromate on cherry- will have to try that out.

Re: Jewelry Box

Sure, this is my favorite dye mix for tiger maple. I use J.E Moser's powder dyes: 32 grams medium yellow maple, 8 grams pilgrim maple, 1 qt. distilled water
