We're done here ... the contest is over tonight.
posted: 8:12 pm on March 25thI tip my cap to whomever is the 'winner' ..... IMHO we all win by having the opportunity to view such an outstanding range of work.
My personal thanks to the 950 people who gave "Dancer" a 'thumbs-up' ..... your support feeds my spirit.
Last thoughts from me ...... I have seen many wonderful pieces in the past few days ..... and know that many of us can benefit from sharing what we know ... and the challenges we face amongst the sawdust.
The FWW "Knots' forum is one way to stay in touch .... and I will as well reply to any personal e-mail sent to me.
Do a Google search for David Charles Knipfer ..... and send me a message.
I do hope to stay in touch with .... and share as I can ..... any of you who share my passion for little boxes.

posted: 7:47 pm on March 25thI can't imagine the design work to make this vision a reality ....... well done I say.
My work is very different from yours ..... but that is the nature of building boxes.
Very well done Michael

Re: Burl Hog
Third project ... hmmm ... very well done indeed!
posted: 7:37 pm on March 25thWe all start at the same place ....knowledge of zero .... and the passion to learn, explore and stretch yourself is what matters at the end of the day.
Take the time to go slow ..... be safe ..... read and ask questions .... try new things ...... cripes .... I'm waxing philosophical again. Do your thing Ryan and have fun!
I have been at this for over 10 years now ..... and my own third project was burned in the fireplace because of it was horribly ugly. :)
Stay with it Ryan ..... this is a fine box and I'm sure there are many better to come someday.

Re: Dancer
Wow ..... I am humbled by your kind words and comments. Thank you all for them ....... your words feed my spirit as I struggle amongst the sawdust to build something of value.
posted: 9:07 pm on March 23rdTell you the truth ...... I hesitated to enter anything into this contest ....... but decided after a long internal debate to show a few photos of "Dancer".
Your kind and generous response to her has me both fired up and humbled ........ I can't believe that over 800 of you have given her a 'thumbs-up".
I am a part-time WW with a passion for creating little boxes ..... just like many of you ..... work comes first and WW is after the family goes to bed. :)
Here is another truth ..... I am never in 'competion" with any fellow WW ...... I will glady share whatever I know with anyone ....... the true competiton is with my hands as they struggle to create what I can see so clearly in my minds eye.
"Dancer" ... as you see her ..... is just one example of my evolution as a WW ....... better to come I hope.
I have lots of photos of "Dancer" creation ....... perhaps they might make a good short-story lesson for some of you?
I share what I know .....
Whatever happens with this FWW 'contest' .... I give my thumbs-up to the winner and hope to stay in touch with anyone who has been inspired by my work.
Thanks to all for you kind words and "thumbs-up".

Re: Proposal Box
Well done Lane ... this is an exceptional piece of work. I expect you will get many 'thumbs-up' ..... you sure have mine.
posted: 7:22 pm on March 20thI as well have hand-cut dovetails into Bubinga ..... and every time I do so I say never again ..... my chisels always seem to end up 1/4" shorter from all the sharpening. Hats off to you for the effort.
I was browsing through the 'gallery' tonite and came across this lovely piece ..... and read your comments about how to deal with the 1300+ thumbs-up ...... your reply was the same as I would have given.
Tell you the truth ..... I never see myself in 'competition' with any fellow WW ..... I glady share whatever I know whenever asked ..... the real competition is within myself as I struggle to make my hands create what I can see so clearly in my minds eye.
Your attitude to the 'mystery' thumbs-up is in that spirit.
I hope and expect you will get many positive comments on this lovely piece.
Go take a look at my little box .... "Dancer" .... somewhere a few pages back

posted: 9:48 pm on March 19thYour design work here is outstanding ...... the 'drawer' front pulls integrated into the piece are very creative.
I as well build boxes .... and can imagine the hours amongst the sawdust to bring this piece to life.
I wish you would tell us what timber you used and how you finished her ..... can't tell from here.

Re: Dancer
Thank you all for the kind comments ....... your words feed my spirit.
posted: 7:58 pm on March 12thI truly enjoyed creating "Dancer" ..... she took a long time to evolve ..... with lot's questions along the way about 'what is right'.
If you design your own work you know what I am trying to say ...... the challenge lies in keeping parts in porportion to the whole ..... not just size ..... that is easy ..... but 'feel' ..... the 'feel' of a piece is very difficult to pull off for me.
Your kind comments tell me that I have achieved that with this piece. Thank You for them.
Jeremiah ..... good to hear from you. Do a Google search for David Charles Knipfer and send me an e-mail ..... would like to catch up and see how your timber selling business is going.
