I agree with Tim Quinn that this fascination with originality and novelty is relatively modern, and in my opinion, partially driven by a desire to be able to claim ownership over something. I also believe there is very little truly new in most 'new' products and designs. But it's always polite to acknowledge your influences, like one of humanities great thinkers did,
