Clinical Lab Manager by profession, and a long-time admirer of colonial cabinetry and furniture, I have dabbled in building small tables and boxes for years, and had even built a 6' pine plank trestle table with 2" planks for a civil war era farmhouse I rented 30 years ago. It served it's purpose, but was too big to fit anywhere else except the basement of my present home.
In need of new kitchen cabinets, I built my own seven years ago, using my own design. Really spruced up the place, so I decided to really "get-into-it" and start learning techniques to build large, useful pieces. My goal is to learn more ornate furniture building techniques, and cabinetry using my second love--leaded glass panels and doors.
I'm fortunate to have my father's expertise, as he is an accomplished furniture maker (but won't build me anything)--okay, he has a few pieces--but most of the requests tells me to do it myself! So, that's what I am doing.

Love the design, and the re-use of material.

Re: Teardrop tailer project

Thank You Riden! That's exactly what I meant...they grew up and finally moved out on their own. -dj

Re: Teardrop tailer project

Great idea! I got rid of my 18 ft-er after I divorced and got rid of the kids, thinking I would be relegated to camping out on the ground when traveling...this project puts fresh butter-on-the-bread...Thanks for sharing. --dj

Re: Patricks workshop

Looks just like mine, You know, if I organized a little better, I wouldn't be able to find anything! -dj

Re: Trestle Table

Thanks for the comment!
Yep, I thought the added finial ends would "spruce" up an otherwise plain design! I don't have a lathe (yet) to cut anything round, so thought the keys were a nice add-on.
