Re: Build a Tablesaw Sled for Precision Miters

If you have one of those digital "Tilt" things.. just set it on the base of the jig and zero it out and then put it on the blade and tilt till it says 45 degrees and it should be dead on at least for the "session". It's not rocket science.

I do it this way all the time and it's much easier than trying to use a triangle or one of those speed squares.. which may be great for framing jobs but not so much for small boxes and picture frames.

Re: Quirks with the Push/Pull Tool

So, we must be talking about SketchUp here?! :-)
I use SketchUp quite a bit.. but sometimes it can be frustrating and confusing.
I keep trying to make sense out of the Google vids and such but that too is often a bit confusing. A FREE class by an expert would be great... but that's probably NOT going to happen. So....let me share this with "Y'all"...
As a former subscriber to "Lynda.com" I got an interesting email promoting her online tutorial for SU8 the other day.. for $37.50/month USD I think it's something I am going to do.
In another life I bought the BIG package and had access to all of the stuff they offer and WOW... was it great!!! So, I highly recommend Lynda to everyone.
Although Google has their own free tutorials... Lynda's stuff is often more practical and easier to get your eye-teeth around.

Good luck to us all.

Re: UPDDATE: Shop Improvements: Outstanding ideas from the world's finest woodworkers from Fine Woodworking magazine

As I get more distinguished, (older) some things seem to get heavier and harder to handle... I sure could use a tilt-top shop cart that handles plywood in my shop! So you know when [ I ] WIN the book... it will immediately be put to good use!!! ;-D

Which reminds me.. I used to have a book that was full of useful methods and tips and "tricks" showing you to do many 2 or more man jobs efficiently - even if you are only one. Now, I wonder where I hid that one.....????

BTW: I love the content on this site.. just today I learned a great method of making a dead on square cross cut jig... and when I'm done with the honey-DO!!! projects for the day I think I'll make one for my unisaw and not have to be paranoid about getting perfectly square cross cuts any longer. :D

Re: Play Fine Woodworking's Game: Against the Grain

O.K. pretty simple. Got them all on the first try. 5 for 5. :D
When I first saw the image... I got this freaky scary feeling in the pit of my stomach. I've seen people do things like that before and the results can be devastating.

I am assuming that this was "set up" for the "fun of it" and was not a shot of this actually happening?!

It's always good to remind, some of us, of the stupid things that are sometimes done in one's shop... most often because we want to save time and "get 'er done fast", at the possible expense of our personal safety. You know, fingers, arms, eyes and the occasional piece of wood shot back through the kidney. Hey, I have more than one of each of those anyway -- so what the heck. ;-)

Thanks Fine Woodworking, for reminding ME about safety @ the Table Saw.

BTW: Even the new SawStop saw can't help in that situation.

Re: BOOK GIVEAWAY: 500 Tables (Updated with winner)

"We spent the entire night talking and making love...
'Round 3 am we went to the Empire Diner for some comfort food...
and then... well back to my place for some more "desert" Yummm!
I can still smell the scent of her. It wafts gently in the air filling
my mind with visions of her silken skin that glistened in the moonlight
gently beaming through the window onto her body as she lay there
glowing on those satin sheets.
Why oh Why did the daylight have to tear us apart...
I just can't seem to keep my mind on this job.
'But that's because tonight.. well tonight;
we plan to do it all again..... Yummmmmmmm."

P.S. "I wonder if she wants kids?"
Oh well. One day at a time I guess. ..... [ drifting off again..... ]

Re: Building a Table Top Breadboard

I like all the tips about how to use SketchUp but was wondering if you share your SketchUP models? Can I download them from the google library?
TIA from HotLanta
