In a time long ago, in a place far, far away (Norfolk, VA in 1984) I needed a desk to work on my personal computer. (Yes, kids, they had personal computers back then). A decent sized table would have done just fine. Several months later, I ended up with a dual pedestal desk, 72” x 36”, made of solid red oak. I almost didn’t fit through my apartment’s door.
